Silicon Valley ComicCon – Mar 18-20, 2016

The inaugural Silicon Valley Comic Con brought the grand comic con experience to to the San Francisco Bay Area this past March.

The bay area has been missing large comic conventions since WonderCon left in 2011, and SVCC has filled that void. The Steve Wozniak sponsored event brought celebrities from various media: “The Martian” author Andy Weir, William Shatner, and Carrie Fisher. The cast of Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox, Lea Thompson, and Christopher Lloyd were on hand for panels and photo ops with the iconic movie DeLorean. Cosplayers, comic book artists, and Stan “The Man” Lee helped cement SVCC as a legitimate comic con.

What made SVCC unique was the influence of Silicon Valley with panels related to Science and Technology. Janna Levin of Columbia University, Spiros Michalakis who introduced the term “quantum realm”, and Adam Save of Myth Busters were present (he secretly cosplayed as Hellboy on the convention floor.)

The convention truly was “where science meets fiction.”
